About Us

When it comes to student loans, there are a lot of moving parts and often a lot of misunderstandings about the options an individual may have with regard to student loans. It is comforting to know that there are professionals who have developed a thorough understanding of the student loan process and how the role student loans play in your life after you have completed your studies. With our company, you will get two professionals who approach student loans with a different point of view, but both will have your best interest at heart. John is a skilled attorney who has received specialized training with respect to student loans. He has long been a “warrior” for the little guy and helping consumers fight battles where they may feel overwhelmed. Jared will look at your student loans primarily from a financial planning point of view. He will provide you with an analysis on how they can impact different areas of your retirement as well as your current financial situation.

About John Skiba

skiba Over the years I have learned one valuable lesson when it comes to student loans – having a true understanding of the student loan process can save you thousands of dollars.  Too many people jump into huge student loan debt without much forethought of how it will be paid back. It is my hope that the information here at the Student Loan Warrior website and our counseling sessions can be of true value as you navigate the often confusing path of financing an education.

Law School

I am a graduate of the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas law school

Undergraduate Work

I graduated from Brigham Young University. While I was there I was fortunate to play football for the BYU football team. I played guard on the offensive line and am proud to have been a member of the inaugural Mountain West Conference championship team. The fact that this is the first thing I mention when discussing my undergraduate work should tell you a lot about where my time was spent. Football was a full time job but I am proud to have graduated from BYU with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Psychology.

Professional Memberships

I am a graduate of The Student Loan Lawyer Workshop and am a member of the State Bar of Arizona, and am licensed to practice before all state courts, the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Personal

I grew up in Utah and my wife was raised in the White Mountains of Arizona. My wife and I have six kids (yes, six!). Having a large family, I know that it takes a lot of work to keep the kids fed and a roof over everyone’s head. When I am not practicing law I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids, following the BYU Cougar football team, and coaching the offensive line for the varsity football team at Benjamin Franklin High School in Queen Creek, Arizona.

Professional

Financial Adviser I am a financial adviser helping families with their retirement and investment needs. I specialize in portfolio management and educational planning. Helping others gain confidence in their financial future is something I find truly rewarding. I have worked with families and individuals who may have student loans and are concerned about the impact these may have on their retirement goals as well as their financial lives.

University of Phoenix/Apollo Education Group I began my career at University of Phoenix, where I worked as a Senior Financial Adviser. I won multiple awards during my time there. I spent the majority of my time teaching incoming students about the basics of financial aid and the student loan process. I felt it was especially important for students to fully understand the obligations they were taking on with respect to their student loans and prepare for their future. I then transitioned over to Apollo Education Group, which is the parent company to University of Phoenix. During this time I worked as a financial aid processor. During my time, I estimate I have certified over 10,000 different financial aid files. This experience has provided me with the context of gaining an extremely thorough understanding of how a student’s account is processed and certified for financial aid. There rarely is a type of situation I have not seen at this point and I have an extensive understanding of the financial aid process in general.

Educational

Masters of Business Administration I completed my MBA at University of Phoenix where I graduated with honors. I was invited into Delta Mu Delta, an International Honor Society in Business, and worked hard to achieve excellence in my studies. I also learned that everyone who is going to school has a unique story and their own reason for pursuing higher educational goals. Additionally I have a bachelor of science in business with an emphasis on finance and marketing. Professional Designation

Certified College Planning Specialist (CCPS) The CCPS is THE standard of excellence for college financial planning. This designation sets the mark and identifies college financial planning professionals who have met the highest standards of competency and ethics established and enforced by National Institute of Certified College Planners (NICCP).

Educational Loan Analyst (ELA) The ELA is an additional designation offered by NICCP that further demonstrates my knowledge with respect to educational loans and the proper analysis. This designation highlights some tax planning strategies that advisers may implement to help clients determine college financial planning strategies. Student loans play a large role in many clients’ financial lives and this designations allows me to demonstrate how to mitigate their subsequent impact.
